How to recover a deleted collection in Shopify

Deleting a collection in Shopify is final. The collection, its conditions, its sort order, and the links that put products inside it all go at once, and the admin offers no way back.

What you actually lost

A collection is more than a name. Automated collections carry rules; manual ones carry a hand-picked product list and order. Delete it and you lose the logic, not just the page. Rebuilding from memory rarely matches what was there.

Restore it from a backup

If you back up, this is a non-event. Restore the version from before the deletion, dry-run to confirm the collection and its membership return, then run it. The collection comes back wired to the right products, not as an empty shell. The mechanics are in how to restore a Shopify store.

Without a backup

There is no native recovery. If the collection was automated, recreate the rules and hope they catch the same products. If it was manual, you are reassembling the list by hand from whatever notes or screenshots exist. Slow, and never exact.

The habit that prevents it

Automatic backups plus a checkpoint before structural changes. Collections, navigation, and theme edits are the quiet deletions people forget to protect; read what to back up in a Shopify store for the full surface area.

HappySnap captures collections with their rules and membership and restores them point-in-time. See HappySnap or the Shopify backup pillar.
